Are all search results created equal? After the latest update to Google’s mobile-friendly algorithm, the answer is most definitely no. Until very recently, anybody performing a Google search would receive the same results regardless of whether they were using a computer at home or a cell phone out and about. Now, results are filtered differently depending on what type of device is being used to perform the search. The biggest question in regards to the latest update would definitely be “is this a good thing?” That depends greatly on if you are a site viewer or website creator and if your website has been updated to be mobile-friendly.
The majority of the population has very little patience. Everybody wants knowledge and entertainment, and everybody wants it as soon as possible. Websites and pages that aren’t mobile-friendly cause viewers to have to scroll and zoom just to gather the least bit of information. The need for too much scrolling and zooming can cause viewers to become agitated and leave the site in hopes of having their needs met elsewhere. This is the first reason all websites should be updated to mobile-friendly. The second? Websites that aren’t will now take a giant hit when it comes to appearing in search results and can even be booted from the top. The best thing site owners can currently do to help their business succeed is update to be mobile-friendly. If this isn’t done as soon as possible, there’s a good chance the number of site views will become less and less until there are none, and nobody wants that for their business.
